To begin with this was a little different to most in the way that the client had asked for some ideas or a concept without them having too strong of a focus on what their ideas were, I guess I was given a lot of freedom to design and suggest ideas.
Once I had established the concept we picked and chose the aspects which they really liked and left the ones out they we not as keen on.
This site had just had an above ground pool burst beside an aged deck that was in need of much repair. The reason I had incorporated the decks is due to the steep gradient of the block and to reduce the huge cost of constructing several retaining walls and massive amounts of fill to be imported.
Rather than constructing one large deck the idea of the split level or “sunken room” gives a separate retreat or private space away from the main deck.
